Companies are interested in hiring those people who have a natural instinct of what makes a game good or bad, someone who knows how to create video game design, a person who is passionate about playing video games. And therefore, while designing, you come across many problems so you need someone with good problem solving skills. The companies need such experts who can take care of things efficiently in a very short span of time, because of the fast paced competition in the industry.
It all began with Atari. Established in 1972, Atari started the revolution of not only video arcade games, but home video game consoles and home computer games as well. Game systems and video games have come a long way since the first Atari came out. Every year, new games and game systems are being established. Each system has bigger and better graphics than the next and each try to incorporate new and innovate features to out do competitors. Video game design is constantly changing, and allows designers to have the freedom and creativity to come up with systems and games most people could never even dream up.

I am doing work for a client, though I have done logos, cards, and something from the heart. I Need ideas on how much I should charge for doing art for an educational game.

Ifyou are thinking of what to do for a career and you have an interest in animation, then you should consider video game design. This is an industry that is booming at an incredible rate and shows no signs of slowing down. In the past twenty years, there have been incredible advances in the video game design industry and you could be a part of it.
In only a few decades, there have been barriers broken that could never have been dreamed of in the past. Video games are so realistic now that you feel as though you are actually in the game. You can play a racing game and feel as though you are in the Indy 500 or play a war game and get a good glimpse into what World War Two was really like. The possibilities are endless but people are needed to come up with these ideas and innovations.
Ifyou’re an avid video gamer and while sitting at home playing your favorite game, you think to yourself, “I could do this better”, video game design might be the perfect job for you someday. But there are some key skills you’ll need to have before you can enter the field and truly make an impact on the video game market. Here’s a description of the most important ones.
Programming
Everything you see in a video game is boiled down to 0s and 1s, the basics of programmers everywhere. If you decide to aim for this job, you’d better start early. Programming is the building block of any good video game design job. If you’re great with numbers, better with details, and don’t mind spending long hours staring at a computer screen looking for a missing line of code, programming is a great place for you in video game design.
Google Tech Talk December 1, 2009 ABSTRACT Presented by Peter Struijf. Peter Struijf is the designer and publisher of the innovative 4-player boardgame Krakow 1325 AD (2008). The game has two highly novel elements. Firstly, the “game engine” is a trick-taking card game (using special cards). Secondly, each player is a member of a two-player team, but has a secret Identity and plays to become the sole winner through a second scoring mechanism. The game has sold over 1200 copies to date and was awarded for the main Boardgame Award in the Netherlands. Peter will give a 30-minute presentation about his three-year long creative journey, covering the inspiration for and origins of the game, its test and development process, and how the artwork and “story” of the boardgame were merged into one single product. There will be space for questions and discussion afterwards.
